Summer Vacation in a Sketchbook!

I started this sketchbook in Florida and began posting pages on June 23 after we got back. I didn't plan on this book being about our summer vacation, but I'm so glad it's worked out that way. And I decided since it did, I'd go one step further and design a cover for it.
I almost always decorate the covers — seems a shame to hide all the interior loveliness inside a dull black cover. Normally, though, I adhere a piece of scrapbook paper or an image of a drawing I've done recently. I've never set out to create a cover like this, but this book deserved something special.

I made the collage on my computer and glued it to the cover. Then to protect it, I put a sheet of clear contact paper on top and secured it with scotch tape on the top and bottom. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but hey, it works.

I'm already flipping through it and smiling — I'll have to think about setting it out for display instead of shelving it with my other sketchbooks.

  2. What a great summer they had. I definitely think you should keep this sketchbook nearby where you, the kids and others can browse through it. A great reminder of a great summer.
