Ideas For A Travel Journal.

Finally — between swimming lessons, basketball camp, "He did it first" and "She touched me" — I spent some time today catching up with my vacation pages. Here's what I did on the first few spreads.
The whole week ran together for me, so the first thing I did was create an intro page. I always skip a few spreads at the beginning of a sketchbook for just this purpose. I added our Magic Kingdom family portrait and a few images cut from the back of a set of postcards and then listed where we went each day.

I spent the hour at the airport with my sketchbook and today I added the photo of the Punks in front of their first airplane.

Some of the pages, like this one, I added color to before we ever left. I drew the palm tree and leaf while waiting for the rain to stop in the courtyard by the Jungle Cruise. It never stopped, so we didn't get to use our Fast Passes.

The line for the Test Track was long, but we were inside surrounded by lots of automotive equipment and I kept busy drawing. My foot I drew that night while I was waiting again — for my turn in the shower that time.

I basically followed my usual format. I never had a lot of time to draw — the Punks weren't willing to let me sit for an hour or so to work on a landscape. I just did snippets that summed up the day for me.

More pages to come soon.

  1. These are just great!! I love that you had the disney font on the intro page! And a great idea to list where you went each day, too. On whirlwind trips it gets harder to remember over time. Can hardly wait to see more! You guys must have had the best time!! :)

  2. I love these pages, Karen. I am not finding a lot of time to draw lately. You are inspiring me to squeeze it in whenever I can.
