I'm still experimenting with getting color on the page and today I had a real breakthrough. I dug out my biggest wash brush, loaded it up with color and slapped it down on the page. Just for grins & giggles because I've never tried it before.
I dried the spread with my embossing heat gun (but I'm sure a hair dryer would work) and that kept the pages from buckling. I love the Hand•Book Journals ... if they ever stop making them, I'm buying as many as I can get my hands on. Actually, maybe I'll just start stockpiling them now!
I colored the next three spreads, too, just to see if it was a fluke and they worked just as well. Plus, I had more control over the color, no color on my hands and a lot less mess on my table.
I think I may have found a new favorite technique!
Did you use the new opaque watercolors you got? Looks great! Love the ornaments. I can't believe this year is almost over, either. Have a nice restful New Years. I know Karma and I are going to be peacefully at home in this snowstorm. ;)
ReplyDeleteHello. Just looking to source these journals from Australia and note that there is a website called www.cheapjoes.com where they appear to be half the price of Blicks. Not sure about shipping costs for me but you might want to check it out.
ReplyDeleteRita ... I used my regular transparent watercolors for the background, but tried the opaque ones on top. The hubster got me a 24 color set by Pelikan and I'm fairly impressed with them. They're not particularly expensive, but they seem to work really well.
ReplyDeleteAli ... I get the 8.25" x 5.5" portrait size and there's about a buck difference. I'll check out Cheap Joe's though, because I need some waterbrushes and other stuff and a few bucks here and there add up!
Thanks!
ALI ... I stand corrected! I just found where you can get a three pack for about the price of two journals! I am SO GLAD you commented on my site. Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!
