One of These Things Is Not Like The Others

Can you see why I don't want to draw all of her stuffed animals? Mind you, this doesn't include the stuffed people, as she calls them – just what she considers to be animals. And you can't see them all because they are mounded up to make a hill onto her bed.

And no, we didn't think to count them when we put them away. Let's just say there's a whole heck of a lot! Enough that I started out trying to arrange them and she said, "Mom, just throw them on there – I'm starting to get HOT!"

Next the boy with his Legos or Hot Wheels? I can probably bury him with both.

Leftover, But Not Forgotten.

This started as a piece of paper I cut off of a larger painting. I liked the colors and figured I'd do something with it eventually. Today was the day and soon it will hopefully be brightening a friend's day.

Beanie Boo #5 ... A Compromise.

I've drawn Izzy before, so I really wanted to paint her stripes in rainbow colors. Cue the frowning kid and I decided that probably wasn't a good idea. So instead ... well, you can see the compromise we reached.

Finished and I Did Good.

The normal reaction around here to my artwork is often, "That's nice." I don't think it's so much a lack of interest as it's something I've always done and therefore not all that exciting.

When I showed the finished frame to the minions, they both commented on the picture. They didn't like the fact that the image is old (only 6 months and it's the most recent family shot I have), it's in black & white (so we don't clash with the frame) and I have no hair (yes I do, it's just short). That was actually more than is normally said, and nothing was about the artwork, so I was pretty happy.

The hubster got home at his usual time and I headed to yoga after giving him the rundown on what I'd left them for dinner. When I got back after class, I found out the minions had dragged him over to show him the frame. They told him why they didn't like the photograph, but then gushed about the artwork.

They like me. They really like me!

Sneak Peek.

This is what's on my table right now. I've had the MDF blank frame forever – in fact, I think it moved with us seven years ago.

I painted it minty green, sketched out a B and started doodling flowers and leaves. Then I added some color and now I'm inking over the top. Eventually I might add an "est. 1997" line, and of course, a family picture.

First, though, I need to go to the library and a couple of other places with the punks. The fun never stops around here.

Beanie Boo #4

She's much happier than I made her look. It's just her fuzzy fur was over her eyes like that and I draw what I see and it made her look angry.

But she's not.

She's a very happy, glittery, pink owl.

Beanie Boo #3

Now she's thinking I should just draw all of her stuffed animals.

Um.

I don't think I have that kind of time.

Mission Accepted ... I Guess.

Drawing these little creatures isn't that bad, because if I'm a little off who is going to know?

I hope you can tell that her ears and paws are glittery. That, at least, is hard to represent in watercolor and someone (not naming names) is a little miffed.

Someone else is piling up his creations and favorite toys for my next assignment and told me, "Be afraid. Be very afraid."

Whuh-oh. (Spellcheck thinks whuh-oh is a word. What?)

Creative High.

Instead of a creative block, lately I can't make things fast enough to keep up with my ideas. I'm not getting a lot of sleep, but I'm also not complaining.

I've Got My Marching Orders.

What scares me is she knows what order she got them in, where she got them, why she got them, and who (if anyone) gave them to her.

From The Hubster, As Promised.

When we first got married ... actually, even before we got married ... my husband's DIY attitude was a little scary. That's not to say he won't ask for help from more experienced DIYers or call in a professional when one is warranted. Still, after almost 18 years of projects, including everything from stripping wallpaper to remodeling bathrooms, kitchens and taking out hot tubs, we've never had to call someone to fix one of our projects.

He's very talented in the garage, too, where he does more than just washing, waxing and changing the oil. This past week he replaced the brakes on our van – that's his idea of relaxing while on vacation!

It's a good think he enjoys his DIY projects since I probably spend the money we save on art supplies!

I Lied. Something From Me First.

Although technically this is mostly the hubster's work. We finally finished our rehab on the back porch this morning with the transom window over the door. We talked about screening it in, but then I thought a stained glass window would be fun. So he did all the hard labor and I added the pretty.

This is actually a piece of plexiglass that I used Liquid Leading (basically puffy paint) and glass stain on to create the look of stained glass. I found both items at our local craft store. I went through a lot of those little pots – 14 for each color – and I'm sad to say I've since found larger supplies online, but it would have been about the same cost. Just less running around trying to find more of the little pots at various stores.

Either way, I'm not going to complain because I love the end result!

One Last Birthday Spread

The pink gerbera daisies made me think of her ... and then she wore blue all day long. She did, however, pick out a pink cat at Build A Bear, so she mostly followed true to form.
