Tips & Tricks

I love the look of spray inks like Dylusions, but I think they are a little expensive and they aren't waterproof. To mimic the look, I mixed 1 part cheap liquid acrylics (50¢ to $1 a bottle) with 2 parts water in a little spray bottle. I sprayed the background first, then spritzed some paint into a plastic palette and used that to brush over the wings and create the drips of paint.

No matter how much color you spritz on the background, your work on top won't disturb it because it's permanent once dry. The added water didn't change the saturation of the paint colors either, but it did allow them to blend like watercolors since I was working wet on wet.

Very cool and definitely something I'll continue to experiment with.
