More Vacation Pages.

posted the first few pages of the vacation section in my sketchbook back in June. I'd really planned on finishing and posting the rest before now, but better late than never.
I mentioned in the last post that I colored some pages ahead of time, which is what I did here. The day was so busy — Three parks in one day??? I still swoon at the thought! — I never had time to draw. I put in the headline, date and the three lists of what we rode in each park that day. I just added the photos yesterday.
This is a page I didn't add color to originally, so I skipped it on purpose with the intention of adding photographs when the vacation was over.
This spread ROCKS (if I do say so myself) and it's all due to luck. The bright blue images against the orange background just pop and there was no planning involved when I set up the book. It's just one of those happy accidents.
What does a cookie have to do with going to Kennedy Space Center? Nothing, but it is what the Punkette had for dessert on that day. Just looking at the simple drawing, I remember the multi-colored Mickey sprinkles and how HUGE the cookie was.
This is the last spread I did while on vacation. The Orlando airport is a lot busier than Akron/Canton and I had plenty of people to choose from as subjects. Unfortunately, what I didn't have was a lot of motivation to challenge myself, so I drew the Punk's backpack instead.
Now I have six spreads that I skipped in the sketchbook before continuing with my (almost) daily drawings. I'm going to draw some of the flowers I photographed (not as many as you might think), add some more of my favorite photos and my commentaries where space allows.

I went to Disney with my uncle and brother when I was 13, but I didn't take a camera. Then when I worked at Disney in college, I had my old 35mm camera and I took some pictures — mostly of the night shuttle launch I managed to see. Most of the time, though, I left my camera locked up in my apartment.

I'm really happy with my first attempt at a travel journal and I know I'll treasure it. I have these great photos and drawings to help jog my memory when we look back on our first REAL vacation as a family. (REAL meaning there was a couple of plane rides, a hotel, a rental car and more than three days involved in the trip.)

  1. Wow! You used to work there! Awesome!

The spreads are great and this made a great travel sketch journal. Your plan to color some pages ahead of time worked really well. Looks like a lot of fun!! The kids will love seeing this years from now. :)
