Talk About Being Creative.

Decorating the Birthday Board at the Punks' school is getting tough. This is the third year I've worked on the bulletin board and I've been asked to "refrain from focusing on any holidays."

I did snowmen the first year and a polar bear last year, which I know most of the kids won't remember ... unless their birthday happens to fall in December. I wanted to come up with something different, and I think this qualifies.

Now I just have to get over the urge to go back and spread the snowflakes out more.

  1. I so hate the "don't do Christmas themes" brigade! What is Christmas about if not the old, old story (whether that is Jesus or Santa!)? I'm not particularly religious but isn't it worth giving our children a sense of history and their place in the world? The same applies to other religions as well as art is a great opportunity to teach awareness and tolerance without being stuffy. That said I love the board - I miss the snow now that I'm based in Australia. Christmas just isn't Christmas by a pool!

  2. Oh for cryin' out loud. Another nod to being "politically correct," I assume? Well, Karen, your bulletin board is very pretty. (But the rules are annoying.)

  3. I know, I think it's a bit extreme, but that's how the powers-that-be want it. The funny thing is one of the aides was cutting out Christmas trees and ornaments for a project for one of the classes.

  4. Things have changed a lot. I'm glad to hear they could at least cut out Christmas trees--if they didn't get caught! ;)

Looks very nice. But after you mentioned it, then I wanted to move the snowflakes around, too--ROFL! But I wouldn't have thought of it on my own. ;)
